Anne Hathaway Quit Catholicism for Gay Brother

In a recent interview, Anne Hathaway revealed she and her parents left the Catholic Church for her gay brother because of the religion’s views on gay issues.

“The whole family converted to Episcopalianism after my elder brother came out,” she said. “Why should I support an organization that has a limited view of my beloved brother?”

However, Anne isn’t quite comfortable with the Episcopal Church either: “So I’m … nothing [no denomination]. F**k it, I’m forming. I’m a work in progress.”

    Anne Hathaway will announce this year’s Oscar nominations on Feb 2. She will join Academy President Tom Sherak in announcing nominees.

    It was previously announced that Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin will host the Oscars.

    Steve even joked: “I am happy to co-host the Oscars with my enemy Alec Baldwin.”

    The 82nd Academy Awards is on March 7  at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles and will be shown on televised live on ABC beginning at 8 p.m.

    Anne Hathaway and her boyfriend, Adam Shulman, weren’t afraid to show a little PDA while out in Beverly Hills.

    The actress and her beau made their way over to the Beverly Hills Farmers Market, where they ended up buying a handful of sunflowers and sharing a big kiss for all to see.

    Anne has a number of movies due out in 2010 and is rumored to be starring as baddie “The Vultress” in the forthcoming Spider-Man 4 movie.

    Director Sam Raimi is also eyeing John Malkovich as the favorite to play Adrian Toomes in the comic book flick.

    2009 Academy Awards Nominees List 

    The 2009 Academy Awards were announced today. Brad Pitt’s latest movie “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” nabbed the most nods – 13 total. In a close second, the sleeper hit of the year “Slumdog Millionaire” scored 10 nominations.

    The Oscars will be presented Feb. 22 at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood. The show, produced by Laurence Mark and exec produced by Bill Condon, will be hosted by Hugh Jackman and air live on ABC.

    The sweet Anne Hathaway breaks her silence in October’s W about her split from Italian beau Raffaello Follieri, who was arrested in June on charges of wire fraud and money laundering.

    Hathaway says, “As soon as I found out about the arrest, I had to get on a plane to Mexico to do a press tour for Get Smart. And then I spent a week in shock at a friend’s house. It’s a situation where the rug was pulled out from under me all of a sudden. But just as suddenly, my friends threw another rug back under me. One said, ‘Go stay at my house.’

    “And [Get Smart co-star] Steve Carell stepped up for me during an interview when someone asked a question [about it]. He said, ‘At some point you’re going to have to talk about this time in your life. You don’t have to do it this week. I’ll take care of anything that comes your way.’

    “I’ve been shown such kindness,” Hathaway goes on, wiping a tear from her face. “Not everyone gets that. A lot of people go through tough times alone.”

    While visiting her Rachel Getting Married director Jonathan Demme and his family, she got sad.

    “They all had so much going on. And I just started to cry because I thought, ‘I don’t have a life right now,’” she says. “And I haven’t for some time, and I just haven’t noticed.”

    “In the fall I’ll start focusing again,” Hathaway continues, “but right now I need to be me for a little bit.”

    Ah, Anne!  We are a little sad for her.  Let’s hope she gets centered and finds happiness.
