The body of Heath Ledger was cremated in Australia on Saturday and his remains were laid to rest.

Michelle Williams read Shakespeare at the service and some of Ledger’s favorite songs were played, including the Beatles’ Here Comes the Sun.

After the service, mourners gathered at a beachside restaurant and many, including Williams, went fully clothed into the ocean as they watched the sunset.

Feds Are Looking Into Heath Ledger’s Drug Supply

With the autopsy results for Heath Ledger now a matter of public record, the federal government is stepping in to determine how the actor was able to obtain so many prescription drugs.

“We are working with the NYPD to identify any illegally prescribed drugs that may have been prescribed to [Ledger],” Drug Enforcement Administration spokesman Erin Mulvey says.

New York City’s Chief Medical Examiner on Wednesday announced that the 28-year-old actor’s Jan. 22 death was accidentally caused by “the combined effects of Oxycodone, Hydrocodone, Diazepam, Temazepam, Alprazolam, and Doxylamine.” Heath Ledger’s death was ruled an accidental overdose of prescription drugs by the Medical Examiner.

The Drug Enforcement Administration is probing how Ledger obtained the various drugs. Oxycodone is a painkiller, Hydrocodone is also known as Vicodin, Diazepam is commonly called Valium, Temazepam treats anxiety or sleeplessness, Alprazolam is known as Xanax, and Doxylamine is a sedating antihistamine often used as a sleep aid.

This is just speculation, but Heath may have had prescriptions from various countries, meaning he could have been getting his medications from different doctors. He had been filming in Europe just a few days prior to his death. Heath was actively working right before his death. If he was in Europe for a period of time and couldn’t sleep, he probably has seen a doctor there and would have been prescribed medication. He probably had a doctor in the U.S. and could have been receiving other medications that way.

How do you tell a 2-year-old that her father passed away?

Sources say that Michelle Williams is mourning and trying to figure out what to do next.

Matilda, though, “is too young” to know the heartbreaking reason why her father isn’t around anymore.

“Michelle and the family are showering Matilda with love right now to cushion it so she isn’t really aware,” a source close the family says.

The source adds: “Michelle basically told Matilda, ‘Daddy went away.’ Matilda still doesn’t grasp it.”

The toxicology results were announced today and the cause of Heath Ledger’s untimely death is now known.   Heath Ledger died of an accidental prescription overdose.

Look at that picture.  Doesn’t Matilda look just like Heath??

Official: Heath Ledger Died Of Prescription Overdose

Heath Ledger died from an accidental acute intoxication of prescription medicine, the New York medical examiner has announced.

“Mr. Heath Ledger died as the result of acute intoxication by the combined effects of oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam, and doxylamine,” the office said in a statement.

“We have concluded that the manner of death is accident, resulting from the abuse of prescription medications.”

Police found a handful of the aforementioned drugs at the Brokeback Mountain star’s apartment on the day of his death, Jan. 22. Alprazolam (Xanax), diazepam (Valium) and lorazepam (Ativan) are anti-anxiety medications. Other drugs found were sleeping aids zopiclone (Lunesta) and the sedative temazepam (Restoril).

The drugs are the generic names for the OxyContin painkiller, the anti-anxiety drug Valium, Xanax, an anti-anxiety drug, and the sleep aids Restoril and Unisom. Hydrocodone is another name for Vicodin, a painkiller.

An autopsy conducted on Jan. 23 proved to be inconclusive.

Following two L.A. memorial services, Heath is expected to be buried in his hometown of Perth, Australia this weekend.

Michelle Williams and her two-year-old daughter Matilda arrived in Perth, Australia, Wednesday afternoon local time for Heath Ledger’s funeral.

Williams, wearing a black dress and black sunglasses, held Matilda in her arms as they exited the plane under heavy security. Matilda clung to a stuffed rabbit as more than five police officers and airport security escorted them into an elevator.

Williams’s arrival comes one day after Ledger’s father, Kim, mother Sally and sister Kate all returned home from the U.S.

From the airport, Williams and Matilda (who was wearing a striped dress and was covered with a blanket) headed to Heath’s mom’s house in the suburb of Applecross.

A private funeral for the actor – who was found dead in his Manhattan apartment Jan. 22 – is expected to take place on Saturday.

Heath Ledger’s family have begun their final journey back to Australia to bury the actor in his hometown of Perth. They are on a plane to Melbourne.

The group of about 15 people, including the actor’s father Kim, mother Sally and elder sister Kate, left LAX for Tullamarine Airport, on Sunday night. The exit is described as having been carried out in a military-style operation overseen by the Australian Consulate and handled by police and private security staff.

An Australian Consulate rep supervised luggage check-in two hours before the family, which had been staying at the Beverly Hills Hotel for two weeks, pulled up to the airport in luxury 4-wheel-drive vehicles.

The newspaper described the mother and father as looking exhausted as they cleared security.

Heath Ledger Went To The Darkside To Become Joker

Feb 3, 2008 Author: YourCelebrityStuff | Filed under: Heath Ledger

heath-ledger-as-the-joker.jpg

Heath Ledger’s journey into dark places may have begun a year ago while locked up in a London hotel room.

To prepare for his role as the Joker in this summer’s Batman sequel, “The Dark Knight,” the actor spent six weeks alone, formulating his take on the insane villain by experimenting with different voices, laughs and postures.

He also kept a journal of the Joker’s psychology. On one page was a list of things the villain might find funny, including “AIDS.”

Ledger’s obsession with the character is matched only by fans’ obsession with the film. Since a sequel to “Batman Begins” was officially announced in the summer of 2006, the buzz just kept building.

Fans of director Christopher Nolan’s brilliantly revamped franchise have been salivating over every leaked photo, swooning over every set report and blogging each piece of cryptic viral marketing.

The July 18 premiere date cannot get here fast enough.

From the beginning, the thing that the geeks and casual fans alike were most excited about was Ledger’s performance. Cast members and insiders had all confirmed that Ledger’s insane take on the clown prince of crime was going to punch audiences in the mouth.

Then in November, Warner Bros. previewed the first six minutes of the movie and left no doubt about what Ledger had accomplished.

His chilling performance looks likely to completely annihilate any memory of Cesar Romero’s cackling flunkie or Jack Nicholson’s giddy, purple-suited baddie.

Ledger’s Joker is pure psychosis – an unrepentant killer with stringy hair, tailored clothes and smeared “war paint,” as one of his henchman calls it, across his face.

“I’d say that he is the scariest thing I’ve ever seen on screen,” co-star Michael Caine told Movieweb.

Ledger’s meticulous preparation obviously served him well.

His interpretation draws heavily from the anarchistic droogs in “A Clockwork Orange,” and the actor cited Sid Vicious as another influence.

jake-gyllenhaal-and-heath-ledger.jpg

The shocking death of Heath Ledger has been especially tough on his BrokeBack Mountain star and close friend, Jake Gyllenhaal.

Gyllenhaal, who is godfather to Ledger’s two-year-old daughter Matilda, has been devastated by last week’s news. Says one Gyllenhaal friend, “Jake is taking this harder than most people.”

Nowhere is that more apparent than on the New Mexico set of Gyllenhaal’s latest movie, Brothers.

“This has had a strong personal effect on [Jake],” says a set source. The insider adds that Gyllenhaal left the set immediately after learning of Ledger’s Jan. 22 death – but he flew back on a commercial flight to shoot an additional scene on Thursday.

“He was there, but he wasn’t with us. It was obviously a major trauma,” says the movie source. “These guys were very close. [Jake] was sitting in the director’s chair staring off into space.”

Gyllenhaal has been off since shooting that scene, and was photographed Saturday looking subdued with girlfriend Reese Witherspoon in Los Angeles. Set sources say director Jim Sheridan is shooting around the grieving actor during his personal leave.

The 27-year-old’s somber mood is a sharp contrast to the happier times on the set of Brothers. During one intense early prison scene, Gyllenhaal jokingly reached into his pocket and took out a picture of his Brokeback beau to stick on the prison wall. “Like those prisoners put [loved ones] on the wall, but Jake’s was Heath Ledger,” one set source recalls. “That was hilarious. It was a nice moment.”

The source adds, “When you think back on it now, it’s touching.”

We hope Jake takes all of the time that he needs to deal with Heath’s loss.  What a painful, sad tragedy.

However, his father Kim paid a visit to the late actor’s apartment earlier today.

Here is the new cover of US Weekly.

If Heath Ledger was battling drugs and Michelle Williams was trying to get him into treatment, then they kept it very quiet.

Heath Ledger’s battle with alcohol and drugs was so harmful to his relationship with Michelle Williams that she tried to get him to enter rehab, Us Weekly reports in its latest issue.

For three years, Williams was a firsthand witness to the gifted actor’s use of alcohol and drugs, including cocaine, heroin and “a variety of pills,” says a Ledger confidant.

In March 2006 – just weeks after the couple walked the Oscars red carpet and when daughter Matilda was only five months old – Williams drove Ledger to Promises Treatment Center in Malibu, California.

Ledger refused to check in, instead swaying her with a pledge to clean up.

Even after the couple realized “they were in way over their heads,” according to a source, and split in September 2007, two sources say that Williams demanded Ledger be drug-tested before his visitations with Matilda.

When news of Ledger’s death broke last Tuesday, Williams was inconsolable. “She cried and screamed as soon as she heard,” a source on the Swedish set of her latest film, Mammoth.
