Michael Jackson’s ‘84 Victory Tour glove sells for $190K

Jun 28, 2010 Author: YourCelebrityStuff | Filed under: Michael Jackson

Bidders from around the world bought up Michael Jackson memorabilia worth nearly $1 million at an auction on the anniversary of his death, including $190,000 for the Swarovski-crystal-studded glove he wore on his 1984 Victory Tour.

The bidding that began Friday on more than 200 items was “unlike anything we’ve ever experienced,” said Darren Julien of Julien’s Auctions, which ran the auction at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas.

Some items, like the glove, brought 10 times more than their estimated value, he said.

“It just shows you Michael Jackson is the most sought after and most collectible celebrity of all time. It was just phenomenal,” Julien told the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

“People flew in from Asia, Russia, all over. Now that he’s gone, we now realize the true legend we lost,” said Julien, who has not had a similar auction in his 15 years in the business. He predicted the sales would easily top $1 million by the time the auction wrapped up Sunday.

The glove had been expected to sell for between $20,000 and $30,000. The $190,000 sale price included the buyer’s premium of $30,000, a standard industry fee that goes to the auction house, Julien said.

The winning bidder was Wanda Kelley of Los Angeles, who also bought a number of Jackson’s albums at the auction, the Las Vegas Sun reported. She said she was prepared to go higher if necessary.

“Let’s just say I wasn’t walking out of here without that glove,” she said.

A pair of Jackson’s stage-worn loafers that were listed as worth $2,000 to $3,000 went for $90,000.

The custom jacket that the pop singer was wearing during his interview with Barbara Walters was listed at $6,000 to $8,000. It sold for $120,000.

A white Fedora sold for $56,250. One of the last autographs Jackson signed, and dated June 24, 2009, in his handwriting, went for $21,000.

Non-Jackson items that sold at the auction included:

- A Jimi Hendrix Fender guitar for $180,000.

- Prince’s “Purple Rain” handwritten lyrics, which sold for $66,000.

- An Elvis Presley shirt worn in 1956 on “The Milton Berle Show,” which fetched $61,200.

Jay-Z Says “We Are the World” Shouldn’t Have Been Remade

Feb 15, 2010 Author: YourCelebrityStuff | Filed under: Jay Z, Michael Jackson

Jay-Z isn’t a fan of the “We Are the World” remake, which debuted at the Olympic opening ceremonies Friday to benefit Haiti earthquake relief.

“I know everybody is gonna take this wrong: ‘We Are the World,’ I love it, and I understand the point and think it’s great. But I think ‘We Are the World’ is like [Michael Jackson's] ‘Thriller’ to me. I don’t ever wanna see it touched,” Jay-Z said.

The critics agree with Jay-Z. The Washington Post said of the song, which featured Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber, “The updated take was horribly oversung… save for the 21st-century rap verses added toward the end of the track.”

The New York Times weighed in, “Lil Wayne, you’re no Bob Dylan…. as a piece of work, [the song] has all the pitfalls of a Hollywood remake.”

Jay-Z, 40, continues, “I’m a fan of music. I know the plight and everything that’s going on in Haiti. I applaud the efforts: [Millions have been raised] through text [donations] to Haiti,” he continued. “So I appreciate the efforts and everything, but ‘We Are The World’ is [musically] untouchable like ‘Thriller’ is untouchable. Some things are just untouchable. It was a valiant effort, but for me, it’s gonna be untouchable.”

His solution?

“I think it’s time for us to make a new [song],” Jay-Z says. “I tried to do that with ‘Stranded,’ the song Jay, Rihanna and U2’s Bono and the Edge premiered at the ‘Hope for Haiti Now’ telethon]. I didn’t try to make ‘We Are the World,’ but I tried to make our take on how we felt.”

Michael Jackson Death Investigation is Complete

Michael Jackson Death Investigation is Complete

Michael Jackson died back in June of 2009, but it is only now that the investigation into his death is over.

According to a report, the King of Pop died as a result of acute Propofol intoxication and his personal physician Dr. Conrad Murray will be charged with his death.

Now that the investigation has been concluded, detectives will be presenting their findings to the Los Angeles County District Attorney for the next step in the process.

And though Dr. Murray didn’t break any laws by administering Propofol to Jackson, he’ll likely be charged with involuntary manslaughter due to gross negligence.

La Toya Jackson Interview with Barbara Walters

La Toya Jackson sat down with Barbara Walters for a tell-all interview on 20/20 about Michael Jackson’s death, burial, and the family’s grief.

“I don’t think we’ll find a person as talented, a person who thought the way he thought,” La Toya says. “A person with the heart that Michael had.”

“People aren’t that way anymore. He was special. He wasn’t God, but he was certainly godlike. He was the closest thing to a god that I knew.”

La Toya reveals that she is the one who signed her brother’s death certificate and later became the legal guardian of his body.

La Toya talks about the day Michael died and her thoughts on Dr. Conrad Murray.

“Something went wrong,” she said when asked if the doctor killed her brother. “Something went wrong.”

Actually, several somethings appeared to have gone wrong, not least among them Murray’s hide-covering decision to call Prince Michael into his father’s room to witness his hopeless attempts at resuscitating the pop icon.

“He called Prince…Prince…watched him do this, Barbara. And you don’t do that to a child. You don’t do that to a child, especially when you knew prior to asking that child to come up, that Michael was no longer alive.

WOW!!! That poor kid.

As for the controversy surrounding Michael’s other children, La Toya said the question of paternity was moot.

“It doesn’t really matter; those are Michael’s kids. He raised those kids. They were in his arms when they were born; the minute that they were they were right there with him. They only know Michael as their father.”

While the mother of Michael’s youngest son, Blanket, has never been identified, La Toya said that the boy is Hispanic. As for his older children, Prince and Paris, La Toya said they have not seen their birth mother—let alone grasp who she is—since their father’s death.

“They know who Debbie Rowe is. Whether or not they know she’s their mother, I’m not so sure. They haven’t seen her since he’s passed. But they’re more than welcome.”

As for Michael, while La Toya isn’t coming straight out and blaming Murray for her brother’s death, she does point the finger at who she believes to be at fault. (Michael’s death was ruled to be a homicide.)

“I blame any and everybody who was instrumental in Michael’s life providing him with drugs because it was wrong,” she said. “It was terribly wrong. They’re doctors! This is going against their license, Barbara. You don’t do things like that.”

Setting aside what may have killed Michael, La Toya says he is finally resting in peace. And a rather stylish peace at that.

“He was dressed in all white pearl beads going across, draped across,” she said of Michael’s burial. “A beautiful big gold belt. Like…like a belt that you win being a boxer. Full makeup…his hair was done beautifully, his makeup was done beautifully.”

He looked, in his sister’s words, “absolutely fabulous.”

With him in the casket were sunglasses, his iconic white glove and several other personal items, including 11 stones placed on his chest by daughter Paris.

The family’s grief was captured on camera during the public memorial service for the pop superstar, as Michael’s 12-year-old daughter, Paris, delivered tearful remarks in which she declared her undying love for her father. La Toya told Walters that during the service, Paris “wanted so badly to say something to her father.”

“I think it was … Stevie Wonder that was on. And she said, ‘Auntie La Toya, can I go on now and say something to daddy?’ And I started thinking, I said, ‘You know what, Paris? At the end we’re all going to say goodbye and go on stage and thank the audience and say goodbye.’ I said, ‘I think that would be a great opportunity for you to go then.’ And she said, ‘OK, I’ll do it then.’”

The interview will air tonight, September 11, 2009, at 10:00 PM on ABC’s 20/20.

L.A. Coroner Rules Michael Jackson Death A Homicide

Michael Jackson Death A Homicide

After an autopsy of Michael Jackson found lethal levels of the anesthetic propofol in his body, the Los Angeles County Coroner has reportedly ruled the singer’s death a homicide.

The homicide finding – meaning death at the hands of another – is only one of five rulings a coroner can make in a death investigation. Among the others: natural, suicide, accident, and “could not be determined.”

On the morning the singer died, Dr. Murray (pictured above) tried to help Jackson sleep without using propofol, according to the paper. Murray told detectives he gave the singer valium at 1:30 a.m., and then injected lorazepam through an IV at 2 a.m. An hour later, when Jackson was still awake, Murray gave him midazolam, according to the report.

Over the next few hours, Murray said he gave Jackson various drugs. Then at 10:40 a.m., Murray administered 25 milligrams of propofol after Jackson repeatedly demanded the drug, according to the affidavit.

Murray told detectives that after he administered Jackson’s last dose of propofol, he stepped away from the singer for only two minutes to use the restroom. When he returned, Murray said, he found Jackson wasn’t breathing and immediately began CPR.

However, detectives later obtained Murray’s phone records, and found Murray was on the phone with three separate callers for approximately 47 minutes after he allegedly found Jackson not breathing.

While Murray performed CPR, one of Jackson’s staff members called 911. The singer was then rushed to UCLA Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

In the ensuing investigation, detectives found about eight bottles of propofol in Jackson’s rented Holmby Hills mansion as well as other vials and pills that had been prescribed to Jackson by Dr. Murray, and two longtime Jackson physicians, Dr. Arnold Klein and Dr. Allan Metzger, according to the affidavit.

The Jackson family released a statement Monday afternoon commending the work of authorities in the case. “The Jackson family has full confidence in the legal process, and commends the ongoing efforts of the L.A. County Coroner, the L.A. District Attorney and the L.A. Police Department,” the statement said. “The family looks forward to the day that justice can be served.”

Michael Jackson’s burial set for August 29

Michael Jackson’s burial set for August 29

According to Michael Jackson’s father, Joe Jackson, the King of Pop will finally be buried on August 29th. That date would have been Michael’s 51st birthday.

Michael Jackson died on June 25th of cardiac arrest, but the exact details of what caused his death are not yet known to the public.

Michael Jackson’s birthday/burial will come more than two months after he died. Weird? A little. Cyclical? Definitely. Appropriately mythology-building? As if you would expect anything less from the Jacksons.

Paris Hilton Says Michael Jackson Named Daughter After Her

Paris Hilton Says Michael Jackson Named Daughter After Her

While attending the premiere of her MTV documentary Paris, Not France, Paris Hilton revealed to Extra that Michael Jackson’s daughter was named after her:

“My mom and Michael went to high school together and they were best friends since they were 13,” Paris explains. “So I grew up knowing Michael very well and when he had his daughter, he always loved the name Paris and grew up being an uncle to me. So he asked my mom if it was okay and of course she said yes and I think she’s such a beautiful little girl and I’m proud we have the same name.”

Paris, he liked the name that your mom happened to name you. That doesn’t mean his daughter is named after you. There’s a difference. Considering the painstaking efforts that Michael went to in order to cover up his kids, we doubt that Michael would have wanted her to grow up to be the attention whore that you are!

Mmm, no. No that didn’t happen. Could they have been more off with the prediction about how Jackson would look?! But, to be fair, could anyone have guessed he would eventually look like this (above).

Michael Jackson’s Final Resting Place Still Undecided

Michael Jackson’s Final Resting Place Still Undecided

With Michael Jackson temporarily interred at Forest Lawn Memorial-Park and Mortuary in Los Angeles, his family is wrestling with a painful decision: Where will the King of Pop finally be laid to rest?

A source close to the Jackson family says, “They [still] haven’t decided,” but adds that the singer’s parents and siblings might be one step closer to an agreement.

Michael’s mother Katherine Jackson, 79, had previously objected to making the Neverland ranch his final resting place because, says the source, “She thinks it’s a place of horrible memories. She says Michael wouldn’t want to be there.” (Authorities once alleged Jackson molested children at the ranch; he was acquitted of all charges 2005). However, she has since softened her stance, according to the source.

“Katherine is still opposed to Michael being buried at Neverland, but would relent if it could be arranged for Michael’s children to gain ownership of the property,” the source explains. “If they could have complete ownership, Katherine would approve.”

How that arrangement might work, however, is up in the air; currently a majority stake in the property is held by private investors. “That’s one of the things they’re trying to figure out,” the source says, noting that there is money to be made if Neverland becomes a tourist attraction like Graceland, the Memphis home of Elvis Presley.

The other location in play is Forest Lawn, where a private memorial for Jackson was held the morning of his July 7 public tribute in Los Angeles.

Michael Jackson’s Body Is Relocated

Michael Jackson’s Body Is Relocated

Although they’ve already held both public and private memorials for Michael Jackson, the Jackson family is still dealing with the details of the King of Pop’s burial.

And earlier this week, they were forced to move Jackson’s body from Berry Gordy’s crypt at Forest Lawn Cemetery to the facility’s main building basement for fear that a crazed fan may try to break into the coffin.

In related news, it sounds like Debbie Rowe, the mother of two of Jackson’s kids, has reached an agreement with Katherine Jackson (Michael’s mom) regarding the custody of Prince Michael and Paris Katherine. We wonder how much money Row was paid for all of this. Rowe reportedly earned around $13 million for having Prince Michael and Paris.

Rather than pursue a messy court battle, Miss Rowe has agreed to allow Katherine to raise the kids on the condition that Joe Jackson not be permitted to have input into the kids’ lives. Rowe will also be entitled to monthly visits with the children. Do you think she’ll actually visit?

Are they going to figure out the biological parents for Blanket? It might be nice for him to know someone that he is biologically related to, now that his father is dead and because Jackson’s mother is 79.

The craziness continues!

Heartbroken Elizabeth Taylor Hospitalized

Heartbroken Elizabeth Taylor Hospitalized

It is being reported that Elizabeth Taylor is so distraught over Michael Jackson’s death, that she has been hospitalized.

“…the source of her condition is simply: The heart’s gone out of her…She was on the way to his London opening. Then he died, and she began screaming. Then the Jackson family denied her access to their funeral pews and barred her from the events because she was Michael’s friend, not theirs. She’s suffering weakness, tiredness, exhaustion, emotional draining. She hasn’t stopped crying. She and Michael were devoted to one another.”

It sounds like Elizabeth has worried herself sick!

Michael Jackson to be buried without his brain

Michael Jackson to be buried without his brain

This is probably the craziest rumor that we’ve heard so far about Michael Jackson’s death (and burial), but it’s reportedly been confirmed by the Los Angeles Coroners Department that Jackson’s brain has been removed from his skull to perform neurological tests on the late King of Pop’s grey matter. His brain tissue will be examined to reveal any past drug abuse, diseases or if he had ODed in the past.

Neurological tests cannot be performed until two weeks after a person dies because the brain needs to harden, but once the test results are in, the true cause of Jackson’s death will finally be known.

The family faced the grim choice of waiting up to three weeks for Jackson’s brain to be returned to them or go ahead and bury him without it – which they have decided to do.
