Actress Melanie Griffith has undergone surgery to remove the early stages of skin cancer from her face.
Griffith made her treatment public after she was photographed sporting a bruise under her right eye. Speculation had been mounting as to how Griffith, 52, had obtained the black eye and yesterday her publicist revealed the truth.
Spokeswoman Robin Baum said the cancer-removing procedure had been performed early enough to prevent any further complications.
Griffith, who is married to actor Antonio Banderas, is best known for her role in 1988 movie Working Girl, which won her a Golden Globe and earned her an Academy Award nomination. She is set to appear on an episode of TV’s “Nip/Tuck” next year.
