Joel Madden is about the most gentle rocker we can think of, so we were surprised that security at British Airways had a problem with him.
British Airways decided that Joel’s tattoos were offensive and made him cover up before he was allowed to board his flight.
Joel Twittered about the incident.
“Was just told by a British Air person I can’t get on the plane till I cover my tatts,” Madden tweeted. “Should I fight the power?”
A short time later he posted, “I really actually am in shock he won’t let me on the plane till I put long sleeves on and other BA rep is disagreeing.”
“I still can’t believe Brit Air discriminated me for tatts. Unheard of,” he wrote. “The guy was literally disgusted by me. I’m gonna write a letter!!”
However, Madden admitted that he gave in to the airline’s demand saying, “I did end up covering my tats. Its not my style to cause a scene I just had a convo with the BA guy told him how it was discrimination.”
Joel’s latest update says that he’s looking further into it and so far hasn’t found any rule that stipulates no visible tattoos on British Airways flights!
“I haven’t felt this small since the first time I asked Nic out!” he jokes.
We could see if his arms were covered with obscenities, but according to Nicole Richie, who took to her Twitter account to vent about the situation, “That’s the craziest story I’ve ever heard. It’s sad there is still such discrimination in this world. PS all of Joel Madden’s tattoos are spiritual. Since when is expressing your love for God & family against what British Airways stands for?”
